What I Do Every Sunday to Make My Week Less Stressful

Sundays used to be a chaotic mix of last-minute tasks, anxiety, and mentally dreading Monday. But after burning out one too many times, I knew I needed to reclaim my Sundays. Over time, I’ve built a simple Sunday routine that helps me feel calmer, more prepared, and a lot less overwhelmed when the new week starts.

Here’s exactly what I do every Sunday to reset and set the tone for a smoother week ahead.

1. I Do a 30-Minute Weekly Review

Instead of diving into to-do lists or panicking about what I didn’t get done, I give myself half an hour every Sunday to review the week:

  • What did I accomplish?
  • What didn’t get done, and why?
  • What are my main focuses for the upcoming week?

This check-in helps me reflect without judgment and plan with intention.

2. I Prep My Top 3 Priorities for Monday

I don’t write a 20-item to-do list — I just pick my top 3 non-negotiables for Monday. It helps me start the week with clarity instead of chaos.

3. I Do a Light Clean-Up of My Space

Not a deep clean — just a quick 20-minute tidy-up. Clearing clutter in my physical space gives my brain a subtle “fresh start” feeling. I usually:

  • Clear my desk
  • Wipe surfaces
  • Take out trash
  • Put away laundry

4. I Meal Plan (Not Meal Prep)

I used to dread Sunday because of long meal prep sessions. Now I just plan my meals and grocery needs. I write down:

  • What I’m cooking this week
  • Quick meal ideas for busy days
  • Anything I need to prep or shop for

It takes 10–15 minutes and saves me from decision fatigue all week long.

5. I Log Off Social Media for a Few Hours

Sundays are often filled with highlight reels from everyone else’s perfect weekend. I take a few hours off Instagram and TikTok to reset my own mind instead of comparing it to someone else’s.

6. I Choose My Outfits (or Uniforms)

If I’m working from home, I just set aside comfy clothes I won’t overthink. If I’m going out during the week, I plan 2–3 outfits so I don’t stand frozen in front of my closet each morning.

7. I Journal or Brain Dump Before Bed

Lastly, I journal or do a “brain dump” — writing down everything swirling in my head before I go to sleep. This helps me start the week with a clear, focused mind instead of racing thoughts.

It turns out you don’t need a rigid or perfect Sunday routine to feel more in control—you just need one that supports you. My Sunday reset takes less than 2 hours in total but makes the rest of my week feel 10x smoother. If Sundays give you the scaries too, try creating a ritual that calms your mind and sets you up for a better Monday. Even the smallest habits can make a big difference.
